Four key dates in the search for Lee Schools new superintendent

Ft. Myers News-Press | By Rachel Fradette | September 28, 2021

Lee County’s School District is embarking on a search for a new leader.

Greg Adkins, who served as superintendent from 2015 through May 2021, announced his retirement in April.

Ken Savage, who is serving in the interim until the school board selects its next superintendent, was appointed by the school board in June.

With a search firm managing the job posting and candidate recruitment, the Lee County school board has narrowed the timeline to fill the position.

This week, the firm started meeting with community members and stakeholders to develop a profile for the job to be shared in its search.

Here’s a look at some keys dates:

Oct. 12

The Lee County School Board will finalize the job description and profile for promotion flyers. The board will also approve an online application form ahead of its rollout.

The flyer will be printed. Candidates who are interested in the role will receive an emailed flyer and instructions for the online application.

A draft of the flyer will be due a few days prior.

Ray and Associates will begin recruiting candidates for 60 days until the application deadline.

Dec. 13

Applications for the role are due by this date as set by the school board.

As noted in their timeline, Ray and Associates wrote that all applications will be reviewed.

“Materials received after the closing date may be given full consideration depending upon the number of applications received and other factors,” according to the approved timeline.

Jan. 10

During the week of Jan. 10, the school board will interview semi-finalists or top candidates.

According to Ray and Associates’ plan, interviews with candidates can be conducted virtually due to COVID-19 concerns.

“We know this is not ideal, but it can be utilized to keep the process moving,” Ray and Associates wrote in their proposal.

Jan. 17

During the week of Jan. 17, the school board will interview finalists for the position.

The process afterward is to be determined, including negotiations with the selected candidate and offering the contract.
