MILTON, Fla. — The head of the teachers union in Santa Rosa County has been arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon.

Rhonda Chavers, 64, was arrested Thursday. She’s been released from Santa Rosa County jail on $1,000 bond.

According to the sheriff’s report, deputies were called to a home on Fairfield Drive in Milton Thursday evening for a disturbance. Upon arrival, a woman told deputies Chavers fired a gun at her.

The woman said she was talking to someone in front of Chavers’ home when Chavers arrived in her vehicle, the report states. Chavers told the woman to get off of her property.

According to the report, as the woman was leaving, Chavers pulled out a handgun and fired three shots at her — two just missing her head.
