Nine Dunbar High School Students Win Florida Technology Association State Titles

The School District of Lee County – News | March 21, 2022

Congratulations to Dunbar High School’s Technology Student Association (TSA) nine students who took first place in their Florida State TSA conference events. As a result of their hard work and dedication, all nine students are heading to the 2022 National TSA Conference in Dallas, Texas, June 26-30, 2022.

Dunbar’s TSA teams took 1st Place in three categories:

  • Future Technology Teacher (Jaansi Parsa)
  • Software Development (Jonathan Bailey, Aiden Beauchesne, Maxwell Calandro, Carson Mulvey)
  • Video Game Design (Aiden Beauchesne, Samuel Rose, Carson Mulvey, Maxwell Calandro, Zachary Burkett)

“The Technology Student Association’s conference events aligns very well with Dunbar’s IB STEM related courses,” says Dunbar High School Principal Carl Burnside, Principal. “The students’ achievements at the TSA conference is proof that we are providing our students with transferrable skill sets that can equate to high impact successes.”

Dunbar’s TSA chapter is now raising money to help all nine students travel to the national competition. Donations need to be submitted to the school by May 13th. Anyone interested helping or has questions can contact TSA Advisor Jason Perretta at JasonMP@leeschools.net or 239-461-5322.

“Technology Student Association gives students a chance to take classroom theory in STEM and apply it to real world job applications in the form of the events they compete in,” said Jason Perretta, Dunbar TSA Advisor. “TSA members can compete in over 30 events which tests the student’s skills in leadership, communication technology, research, computer science, and information technology.”

Dunbar High School also had two teams finish in 2nd place at the state competition and three finish 3rd. They had ten other teams finish in the Top 10.

North Fort Myers High School also made a strong showing at the Florida TSA Conference. Two teams from North finished third and six others in the Top 10. Mariner High School had one team finish 5th and Lexington Middle School had four Top 10 finishes in the middle school division.
